Donald McCain Jnr
No name is more synonymous with the Grand National than that of McCain and trainer Donald has already started to emulate his late great father Ginger. McCain senior famously trained four Grand National winners including the great Red Rum on three occasions and McCain jnr already has won Aintree win under his belt. The family were celebrating in 2011 when Ballabriggs ran a blinder to claim the win, it was the first trained by Donald McCain Jnr but is unlikely to be his last.
Over the past couple of years we have seen the Donald McCain yard become increasingly strong in the north of England he will always have a strong contender or two for the Grand National each. Ballabriggs was identified as a potential National winner some time ago and he was campaigned with that in mind through the 2011 season. On the day Ballabriggs ran a brilliant race in hot conditions, he stayed on well and hardly made a jumping mistake to the delight of the trainer and his father who sadly passed away not long after.
McCain has got a top class stable at the moment with the likes of Peddlers Cross and Weird Al supporting Ballabriggs as the stars of the yard. The McCain yard continue to go from strength-to-strength at the moment and there is already talk that they have unearthed another potential National star in Wymott which is a name worth looking out for over the coming months. No trainer has more know-how when it comes to the Grand National than Donald McCain jnr and punters could do a lot worse than follow his string at Aintree each season.
