2. Comply Or Die (T J Murphy) 14-1
3. My Will (R Walsh) 8-1
4. State of Play (Paul Moloney) 14-1
5. Cerium 100-1

Mon Mome was the first horse to win at the odds of 100/1 since 1967. This is when Foinhaven won the Grand National in the race that all the horse fell at one fence while he managed to avoid the carnage as he was so far behind at the time. Mon Mone finished 10th in the 2009 National and so this was a real step up for the Venetia Williams trained horse. Mon Mome was given a top ride by his jockey Liam Treadwell, having hunted his way round on the first circuit. He took closer order second time round and jumped the last alongside Comply Or Die and My Will and went on up the long home straight.

2008 Result

It was Comply Or Die who would go on to win the 2008 Grand National impressively after he set off as a 7/1JF. He ran an almost perfect race keeping himself in contention and jumping brilliantly and when it came to the run in he showed he had the stamina and class to top everyone. King Johns Castle was a gallant second but didn’t quite have the stamina to match the winner after the final fence. Snowy Morning was a really good ride in finishing third and he is a young horse and should be one to watch in future years. Slim Pickings travelled well but faded towards the end and came home in a good fourth place.

FULL RESULT:
1st: Comply or Die 7-1 jf
2nd: King Johns Castle 20-1
3rd: Snowy Morning 16-1
4th: Slim Pickings 10-1
5th: Bewleys Berry 12/1

2007 Result

For the running of the 2007 Grand National they could not separate Point Barrow, Joes Edge and gambled on Monkerhostin who all went off joint favourite. Norton Brook took them along early with favourite Point Barrow falling early and the gambled on Monkerhostin just did not take to the national fences and refused. Libertine was well up there and L’Ami was looking good in behind with Hedgehunter also coming into the race on the second circuit. Going to the second last it was between Siler Birch, Slim Pickings and McKelvey with Silver Birch proving most game and stayed on very well to once again took the race for the Irish.

1. Silver Birch (R Power) 33-1
2. McKelvey (TJ O'Brien) 12-1
3. Slim Pickings (B Geraghty) 33-1
4. Philson Run (D Jacob) 100-1
5. Liberthine (Mr S Waley-Cohen) 40-1

2006 Result

All the rage in the betting for this great race concerned Hedgehunter and Clan Royal where the two best jockeys A.P McCoy and Ruby Walsh were set to fight it out. For a while it looked like this was to be the outcome however Nunbersixvalverde the horse with the name of the owners holiday home in Portugal spoilt the party and won in decisive fashion having slowly worked his way into the race and came to challenge the leaders after beachers on the second occasion and was one of six who were clear going to the third-last. Going on at the last, he gradually asserted for a clear cut win.

2005 Result

From the Canal Turn there was only one winner of the 2005 National as HedgeHunter took up the running here and never looked like getting beat. While on the turn into the straight there where any number of horses in a position to challenge, Ruby Walsh was sitting still with a double handful and at the elbow he gave HedgeHunter some rein and away he went to be one of the best winners of the Aintree Grand National in recent years. The one horse that could be taken out of the race was Clan Royal ridden by A P McCoy who was going really well when taken out at Beeches.

2004 Result

The 2004 renewal was won by Amberleigh House. Every year the National brings back into focus some individual or story and the story behind Amberleigh House is the trainer Ginger McCain who was having his first success in the race since his much loved Horse Red Rum won the race 27 years before in 1977. It was obviously a very special moment for him and seems to have rejuvenated his trainer career as he is now having more success after some lean years.

2003 Result

2003 will be remembered not so much for the horse Monty's Pass but for the owner Mike Futter who shot to instant fame by winning 1 million by backing his horse at all odds from 40/1 down to his starting price of sixteen's. Other horses to take out of the race was Ambeleigh House who ran a blinder and as history now knows came out and went two better by taking the race the following year.
