Irish Trained Horses

Irish trained horses have a tremendous record in recent runnings of the Grand National, with six winners of the race since 2000 trained in the Emerald Isle. As such, punters are often keen to back the Irish horses given the country's strong connections with National Hunt racing and the belief that any horses heading across the Irish Sea to Aintree must be making the trip for a reason and therefore stands a good chance of winning.

Traditionally, Irish horses usually make up around a quarter of the Grand National's forty runners, however, very few are outsiders, so backing 'an Irish trained winner' with any bookmaker who offers this market is usually a good way to have several well fancied horses carrying your money in the race and is a popular bet. The most popular and successful Irish trainer at the moment is the great Willie Mullins who trained Hedgehunter to National success in 2005 and his runners should always be followed closely.
